Hey all! Lately I’ve been digging through my old mobile games collection, and I realized that so many of the pay-once games I loved are gone or replaced by free-to-play versions with tons of microtransactions. I found this article: https://www.jedinews.com/misc/articles/why-pay-once-mobile-games-are-vanishing/, and it explains why these games are disappearing — mainly because of ad revenue pressures and app store monetization trends. I tried showing some of these old games to my friends, and most of them had never heard of them. Has anyone else noticed this shift?

Just reading this and it’s really interesting. Even though I mostly play casual free games, I’ve noticed the trend too — it’s rare to find something without ads or purchases now. It’s kind of crazy how quickly the market changed, and it makes me appreciate the old games I still have installed. It’s also a good reminder that business decisions have a huge impact on what kind of games reach players.
